In both November and December 2024 we received voicemails from a relatively local number (573) 213-2876 with the following message: "Hello, this is Matt McGlenn calling from Mediation. This message is intended for FIRST NAME LAST NAME. We are reaching out regarding an urgent matter concerning your account with us. If this is you, please press one now or hold for message. It's critical that you contact us immediately to discuss your outstanding balance. Failure to address this matter could lead to further action so we strongly encourage you to return our phone call at (866) 576-4774. Again that phone number is (866) 576-4774. Business hours are between 9 AM to 5:30 PM Eastern standard time. This is your opportunity to resolve this situation. Thank you." After Googling and determining it is most likely a scam, I tried to call the number and it rang 10-15 times with no answer and I finally hung up. We reported it to the BBB. Around that same time we received a collection letter in the mail also from a "Mediation" that was clearly a scam and very poorly written. The exact same letter can be found on many scam tracker websites. Now today my mother received a voicemail from that same local number, (573) 213-2876, also about my husband. This time they used a different script and a different call back number. The message stated "Hello. Calling you today as a courtesy, your number was given as a point of contact to reach FIRST NAME LAST NAME. Please inform FIRST NAME LAST NAME that they have been named as a person of interest in an important matter that requires their immediate attention. Federal law prohibits me from disclosing further information. If you know this person please press one now or contact us directly at 833-883-2793 again that phone number is 833-883-2793. Thank you for your help today." I mean, come on. Same spoofed number. Two different scripts, two different call back numbers, a fake letter. All of which can be found verbatim on a bunch of different scam-tracker sites. This is harassment and it has to stop.
